Access to Justice

The discrimination between men and women is still strong!

Despite the fact that indicators on women’s condition in Egypt have improved throughout the years, the discrimination between men and women is still strong as far as literacy, education, unemployment and health are concerned.  Religion and social class are very influential factors for Egyptian women, but it is cultural tradition that influences their lives the most. The Egyptian law is partly based on the Islamic shari’a, which involves gender equality as well as women’s discrimination in key-aspects of life, such as family matters.

The project

The project “Access to Justice”, aims to improve access to rights for the most vulnerable population groups, such as women victims of violence who live in marginalized areas of Egypt (Giza, Al-Gharbia Governorate, Fayoum Governorate).  The project aims to make these women aware of their rights as citizens and individuals, as a necessary condition for the emancipation process of the society.

Your contribution will support specific activities launched by the project: the organization oftwo women’s support committees, the structural reorganization of legal counsel centres and the acquisition of the necessary material and equipment, the organization of 9 training courses for the legal counsel centre’s personnel.
